Today’s Motorists are Going Green: Here’s Why
These days, people are becoming more aware of the dangers our cars can pose to the environment. Air pollution, land pollution, and sometimes even water pollution come from how we mishandle cars. So what exactly attracts the motorists to go green?
Well, lately many automobile companies have been pushing environmental solutions that are attractive to the motorists. We’re talking about environmentally green vehicles! Not only are these cars great for the environment, but they’re really awesome too. Let’s take a look at some of them.
First up, we have the Zero Emission Vehicles, otherwise known as the ZEVs. These vehicles are run on batteries and are usually used for short distances. Examples of these types of vehicles are the buggies and the golf carts. These small cars don’t run on gas at all. They are battery powered and need to be charged at the end of the day. However, they can’t go too far because the battery will eventually die after a few hours.

For long distances, you can actually buy what is known as a SULEV or a super low emission vehicle. This type of vehicle makes use of gas but only natural gas such as methanol or propane. These vehicles are also known as alternate fuel vehicles. Now, these are the types of cars that are good for long drives. Not only are they better for the environment, but they are also cheaper to maintain because natural gas doesn’t burn up as fast as petroleum.
There are also the hybrid cars that make use of both gas and electricity. These hybrids are also a type of SULEVs due to its use of natural gas. During low speed movement, the car only needs to make use of its built-in battery, but when it speeds up, the engine revs up. The car’s mechanism allows it to be able to activate the engine only when the car is accelerating, for instance, when it is going up a hill or going through the freeway. If the car is going downhill, then the engine and the batteries will slow down and a built-in generator will be giving power to the batteries. By doing this, the car can save gas when going down a slope. How awesome is that?

As you can see, even the automobile companies are beginning to be more considerate to Mother Nature. However, these cars are not available in all countries yet. This means that most of the cars in the world still run on petroleum. People still have a long way to go before they fully convert to ZEVs or SULEVs. Meanwhile, what are some of the things that motorists can do to save the planet?
One, we can clean our car regularly and throw the trash in the right place. Many people may not notice, but if thier cars are dirty from the inside, then the dirt would actually fly out and pollute the air. Hence, you must learn to pick up all the remaining scraps of dirt in the car. To do this, you may want to buy the best car vacuum in the market. These car vacuums are designed especially for cleaning your car. Buying the best car vacuum in the market will guarantee that your car will be clean inside and out if you use it.
Another thing that you can do is to slow down! Driving fast not only puts a danger on your life but it also wastes gasoline. The gasoline that would be emitted would cause a lot of smoke, which can damage the air people breathe. As much as possible, you can try to drive steadily instead of going too fast.
Lastly, don’t dump your used motor oil or old batteries just anywhere. Make sure you throw them in the right waste facility. For the batteries, you can actually sell them back to car battery manufacturing companies because they can re-use it.
The world is slowly changing to be more environmental friendly. To fully achieve the long-term goal to preserve the environment, motorists also have to do their part. Being aware of how cars can kill the planet is the first step.
